My background is in social work but I began writing children's books three years ago and didn't want to stop. With three children at home, I have a constant need for books of various topics...I've found that writing my own children's books is satisfying (that is, apart from the writers block, crtiques and rejections of course...) This is a creative outlet I was surprised to find myself in after fifteen years in child welfare, but, it turns out, the two are not mutually exclusive.  Books can be a tool to impart wisdom and provide comfort to anyone struggling with grief and loss.  I am grateful to have found this venue.

Personal Interests

I get a bit inflated sometimes and think I can do things I really have no talent for.  I recently completed a drawing class and discovered that I can cross that off my list (absolutely nothing there).  I have an undergraduate education in vocal performance but only use that for weddings, (congratulations Robin and John!) lullabies and such.  I recently learned to play guitar (well just a few of the basic chords really).  I also love cooking and have tried my hand at fundraising, travel and some random crafty activities for friends and family gifts.  I spend most of my free time with my (coffee) drinking buddies, my kids, and once a month I get together with my girlfriends for dinner and occasional shoe shopping.

As far as favorite movies and all that, I'm completely outing myself as a romantic sap but...my favorite books are The Time Travelers Wife, Broken For You, The Liars Club and Housekeeping or Gilead for the incredible, mouthwatering beauty of Marilynne Robinson's prose.  And movies (even sappier, yergh!) Amelie, Room with a View (I know...still!) and The Jerk.  The best movie I've seen recently was Little Miss Sunshine, full of celebration and truth about families.
